Water Cycle - a project with Teri Card Heller and Kate Leen

“This water cycle began its journey nearly three years ago as Teri and I connected across the country, speaking about our lives and the things that were giving us worry, and giving us hope. Teri was working on a set of piano pieces she shared with me, and I was working on some writing, some lyrics and poetry, which I also shared. We noticed that our work shared some themes - a desire to be aware of what exists in the world around us, a desire to connect, and a desire to make sense of the natural world. This began our collaborative project, and we decided that the form of a vocal cycle for piano, violin, and soprano would be an enjoyable way to express our ideas. After sharing some drafts back and forth, Teri introduced me to Kate, and all three of us began talking about how to bring this music to life. In this song cycle, we move through our imaginations of life on this planet, from creation stories to hope for the future.” -MR
